托福口语Task6话题:two ways animals used to navigate

  两种方式以及例子:

  1: see in their environments

2: recognize the smell in the environment

  参考范文:

In the biology class, the professor mainly talks about two ways animals used to navigate.

The first method is to rely on things they see in their environments to determine the location they are in and the direction they are flying. Take the mallard duck as an example. When the temperature gets cold in North America, the mallard duck will fly to the South, to the warmer places. They fly in the night and locate the stars by looking. In this way, they are able to fly in the right direction.

The second method is to confirm the direction via what they are able to recognize the smell in the environment. For example, the salmon lay their eggs in freshwater streams. Astonishingly, every stream has its own unique smell from the chemicals in the soil or from the surrounding plants. The salmon swim from the ocean to the stream primarily relies on their smell. When approaching the specific steam, they will recognize the unique scent and follow the scent to their birth place and lay eggs in that particular spot.
