  Product has life cycle. It’s new and popular at the very beginning, but fade away gradually. In the lecture, the professor illustrates two ways to extend products’ life cycle.

  The first one is to find new customers, which means to find new markets. For example, there was a kind of soft drink popular in America. However, with the time passing by, the company lost customers gradually. In this case, they tried to find new markets in Southern part of America to attract new customers.

  Another useful way is to advertise new use or function of certain product. Since customers’ interests are always changing, company could find new use to appeal them. For instance, there was a baking ingredient soda who was ever popular for people to do some baking. But when people lost interest on baking, and the sales of this kind of product decreased, the company served it for cleaning function, which successfully extend its life cycle.
