考题回忆:Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? It is better to work for business owned by someone you don’t know than for business owned by your family.

While most people work for business created by people they are not familiar with, some people may choose to work in their family business, either out of requirement of their parents or their own choice. However, I think it is better to work for business owned by strangers since it offers more freedom, opportunity and confidence.
First, we can get more freedom by working for business owned by others. This is because when working in a family business, we are destined to be supervised by our family members who have great expectation for us, which can be rather annoying. After all, who would want to be scolded for mistakes at work or tasks failed or unsatisfactory performance by our parents or relatives while having a joyful family reunion? In contrast, if we work in a company owned by someone outside our family circle, we will not be bothered by thisunfortunate incidence. We will certainly not dread any disappointed remarks made by our family members, who are supposed to be caring and supportive rather than picky and nosy. It seems that only in a workplace free of supervision from our family members can we enjoy working.
Second, we have more opportunities to fully exercise our ability. Normally, since we can hardly get fired when working in our family business, we are less likely to work hard enough or to fully demonstrate ourselves. It is not uncommon that the heir or the heiress of an enterprise showing an insouciant attitude towards his or her job, thus failing to fully exercise their ability. Also, sometimes family employees are put at the entrance position in order to avoid gossip among other colleagues. This seemingly sensible choice, however, would inevitable deprive these employees of the chance to do the job that suits his or her ability. In the long run, they might feel frustrated while doing the mediocre job. By contrast, working in an enterprise owned by others allows the employees to be treated equally and given due chance to show their strength.
Finally, we will feel more confident outside a family business. This is because if we have a connection with the board of the company, we are more likely to be judged by our colleagues. They might think our employment as merely the result of nepotism, even if we are in fact perfectly fit for the job. With the judgmental manner of the fellow workmates, it is very difficult to establish self-esteem, as we will soon start to doubt our own qualifications. Also, the superintendents might also pander to us, and evaluate us not according to our performance but according to our closeness to the board. Without proper acknowledgment for our achievement, we will soon become demotivated and indulged in self-doubt. On the other hand, working in a company owned by others means we will not have to worry about the unjustified assumptions of our colleagues and superiors, so that we can be more confident in ourselves.
In conclusion, working for business owned by people outside our family brings about more benefits, such as freedom, opportunities and confidence.
