  参考范文:

Academic integrity is considered essential for a student, so when a student cheats in exam, this record is likely to follow him for the rest of his life. Despite the risks, this still does not stop some students to walk the line. While some argue that increased punishment or parental monitor is the best solution to counteract cheating in exams, I believe that it is superior for teachers to create test situations rendering cheating is close to impossible.

Severe punishment and parental involvement may be an effective solution in the short term, but they cannot fundamentally deal with the situation. When the school cancels test score or announces the name of the student who has cheated in an exam, it does deter potential cheaters. However, just as capital sentence is not the answer to crime, punishment does not address the root of the problem. Also, parents’ opinion weighs heavily for teenagers, so if parents oversee the test, students may behave better. But is it possible to get all parents involved? The person walking the test venue, if not my parent, is just another stranger.

So what should the school do? I propose a solution that preemptively addresses the problem: To change the way students’ ability is tested. For example, the final test can come in the form of a presentation within time limits, with students preparing for it for 24 hours. On the test day, several teachers are brought in to simultaneously evaluate the presentations, giving tasks on-site to check the students’ understanding. What’s more, with the prevalence of digital devices, teachers can ask students to record videos that can check the understanding of the students. By taking these measures, the students are unlikely to cheat when completing the task, so there is no need to bring parents into the picture or deduct anyone’s score. These are just two of the various methods already adopted by prestigious universities in the US, most notably business schools to forestall cheating on exams.

What’s more important is this method fundamentally address the problem. An implication of this method is that students are less likely to think of study as a boring task he has to get over with, but a stimulating project he want to be a part in. Naturally, he would not think of cheating because he is involved, having fun. We are all familiar with the night before exam. Some students stay up late to review but forget about everything as soon as the test is finished. Imagine this is replaced by an interesting video which he spent hours preparing. Which one would better help him have a positive review of taking tests?

In conclusion, While punishment is merely hindsight and parental involvement is hardly feasible, the best way to counteract cheating is creating tests that offers little chance for cheating. Apart from preemptively dealing with the problem, creative comprehensive testing projects are likely to make students so happily engaged that they would not want to cheat.
