环球教育小编为大家总结托福独立写作:领域或学习的选择类话题(2017年9月9日托福考试真题),希望能帮助大家更好的备考托福。
话题分类:二选一类
考题回忆:Your friends have an opportunity to choose either one of two types of majors (fields of study), which one of the following two majors do you think is a better choice, and why?
1) A major that would allow him to finish years of study and get a degree sooner (so that he would begin to work full-time quickly).
2) A major that requires many years of study that would provide him with more employment opportunities and offers in the future.
Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer. Be sure to use your own words. Do not memorize some certain examples.
Typically, there are many crossroads we will encounter on our life way, and one of the biggest dilemmas, undoubtedly, is what major we should choose before attending university. In Chinese idiom, we say women are afraid of marrying with a wrong man and young students of choosing a wrong major, which is closely associated with future career road. Therefore, it is understandable that spending more time on analyzing the pros and cons of desired majors is indispensable. Simply from my own perspective, I would consider the major requiring more years but opening more job opportunities is favorable.
First of all, time is the only asset of young graduates. The least thing for them to worry is to shorten the time for their favorites. If they truly enjoy the chosen major, they are supposed to stick with it, no matter how many years it will cost. Also, our working duration lasts long enough for us to endure. If we do a street survey randomly, asking employed adults “do you want to retire now?”, I bet two out of three would answer positive. So, why new graduates cannot wait to enter the workplace? What they are advised to do is to slow down the university life, which is one-way trip. And when they look back, the best time during lifetime will go to the years in the university. Therefore, it is no hurry at all for young students to run for the finishing line of their university study.
Admittedly, someone would refute me that if they work earlier, in other words, earn a living earlier, they are believed to live a way better life than those who enter society a few years later. They might be driving a BMW and living in a fancy house while those who choose a longer study are looking for a job. However, if we compare life as marathon, the initial few years are just the first 2 miles, the outcome will be only revealedwhen we complete the entire journey. All of us have heard about the “rabbit and turtle” story. Even though the turtle is far slower than rabbit, but its perseverance and goal-chasing spirit eventually makes it the winner. Therefore, the major with longer study but rewarding more job offers will be a wise choice.
In addition, our life is full of unexpected events. Only one weapon can defeat all the enemies and clear up the obstacles, and that is wisdom. With more wisdom, one can act calmly even in front of disastrous affair, such as being fired, bankrupt, nationally fiscal crisis and so on. But where wisdom comes from? The university studies. The more time we spend on our major, the more wisdom we can acquire and the more solid of our foundation of knowledge. Otherwise, we will meet a shorthand sometime during the upward ladder of our career. Thus, taking time to reinforce our major study is absolutely not a bad decision.
To sum up, there is no hurry to end the university life since our working life is long enough to bear. And the late-runner is highly likely to be the winner when all runners meet at the finishing line, and the solid knowledge they have established helps them remove any barriers during the way, which adds up the possibility of being a life winner.
