　　I am a bookworm. In my house, there is a study room where I keep all my book collections, among which are mainly novels. Though I enjoy reading them very much, probably even more than I can describe, I would still choose to watch the movie first if it is adapted from a novel.

　　The films versions can adapt the stories properly by adding visual element, which you can only imagine while reading. However, when you watch the movie, it is just right in front of you. Visual storytelling can be so much more exciting and powerful compared to text-based story, if done well. It can bypass your conscious brain and hit you in the gut, so you feel a moment’s true emotional impact. Writing, on the other hand, so rarely can achieve that. One of my favorite movie, The Reader, is an great example. The movie adaption is definitely way much better than the novel.

　　Watching the movie first can help you grasp the whole plot more efficiently, so later on when you read the book, you know which part to focus on. It makes your reading experience more smoothly as well. Won’t you feel happy if your precious time is saved? I read The Silence of the Lambs a few years after I watched the movie. I enjoyed being able to move quickly through the book because I already knew the plot. Additionally, I enjoyed discovering details the movie had omitted. But imagine you do the opposite first, after reading the novel and know everything, would you want to watch the movie again?

　　Therefore, I would suggest you always watch the film first and then read the book. Only then can you really appreciate the film’s power - assuming that it’s a good film in the first place. Besides, your time can be saved to do better things. Two birds with one stone, isn’t it?
