  The hectic pace of modern life gives rise to excessive stress that we all live with each day. Excessive stress has a powerful impact on our overall health. If I were given an opportunity to make a change of my pattern, I would like to manage the amount of stress.

  Reducing stress can boost individual immune function effectively. Researches have revealed that when we are overburdened, our brains undergo both chemical and physical changes which affect the overall functioning of our bodies. Consequently, we put ourselves at risk of developing a range of illnesses, from the common cold to heart attacks. Chronic stress is considered as a primary factor for cancer. Last semester, I was assigned with so many projects that my schedule was constantly busy. The ongoing pressure had interrupted my sleep. I sometimes waked early in the morning with racing thought. Just before the final exams, I had got the stomachache. Thus, hoping to improve my physical health, I intend to manage the amount of stress.

  Another benefit originating from stress management involves productivity. As I just mentioned that I was involved in many tasks, I was unable to concentrate on the tasks. The heavy burden activated emotional disorders, including anxiety and phobias. The emotional stress hinders me from focusing and making decisions. In contrast, my classmate Judy was faced with three tasks. She engaged herself in regular meditation to let go of old patterns of stress, tension and distraction. As a result, she finished each task efficiently. Then she advised me to shift myself into a healthier pattern of life.

  From the analysis above, it could be safely concluded that it is vital not to ignore either physical or psychological effects of excessive stress. From my perspective, I plan to reduce stress in my everyday life in order to maintain my overall health.
